Ryan Gosling really tricked everyone with his promo circuit embodying Ken as a mindless trophy husband who just loves Barbie. kinda makes it disappointing when you watch the movie and he invents friendzone mentality and the patriarchy lol
#barbie spoilers#overall enjoyed the barbie movie but I found it kinda disheartening#a lot of jokey acknowledgement of misogyny but then Barbie entered the real world and didn't really change anything#not so much a feminist narrative (purports itself to be one) as a movie that is self aware about reality w/ minimal challenging of it#similar to the complicated history of barbie I suppose#also. barbie had such a downer plot but the kens had a dance number#idk. I think that when a script is full of references to misogyny it should do a least a little legwork on that. felt a little cheap#but the set and the costumes? absolutely godly could not get enough best thing ever
